Executive Coach & Senior Consultant
Overview and Strengths
Janice Cunning combines her coaching experience with 17 years of experience as a fundraising consultant and researcher. As a coach, Janice is passionate about partnering with non profit clients to help them create an inspired vision that transforms lives.
Janice was previously a Senior Consultant at KCI, Canada’s largest fundraising consulting firm. In this role, she provided coaching to leading university prospect research departments with a focus on strategic planning, teamwork, and communication. Within the firm, she led strategic planning retreats and monthly meetings that focused on innovation and continuous improvement to client services.
An active volunteer, Janice was a founding director of APRA-Canada and the second international member to serve on the international APRA board. Recently Janice served the coaching community as Vice President and Secretary for the International Coach Federation – Toronto Chapter. She is currently acting as a mentor for graduates of CTI’s Leadership Program.
Janice’s coaching is grounded in the co-active model and built on the cornerstone that we are all naturally creative, resourceful and whole and that we all possess the capacity for knowing what is best for ourselves.
She works with clients to:
- Increase awareness about their personal values and strengths
- Focus on leading rather than managing
- Undertake work with the highest impact on the organization’s mission
- Empower their teams through delegation and prioritization
- Choose the right work/life balance that energizes them
She is also a certified Relationship Awareness Facilitator who administers the SDI® (Strength Deployment Inventory) tool to fundraising leaders and teams. SDI allows people to learn how motivation and values influence behaviour. It helps leaders learn how to influence people who think, behave and communicate differently from themselves. They also gain effective ways to anticipate, prevent, and manage conflict situations.
Janice has coached senior fundraising leaders at institutions across North America including the University of Toronto, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Soulpepper Theatre Company, YMCA of Greater Toronto, United Way Toronto & York Region, Georgetown University, Oklahoma State University Foundation, University of Southern California, University of Florida, Occidental College, and the University of Rochester.
Additionally, Janice has worked with fundraising teams at the YMCA of Greater Toronto, United Way Toronto & York Region, Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation, War Child Canada, and Camp Oochigeas.
